Chaos erupted during an Arkansas trial after 30 bats suddenly flew into the courthouse on Thursday, according to the Associated Press.
Several defendants were on trial in Sevier County court when the bat swarm bombarded the room, causing people to duck and others to flee from the room. One of the bats tried biting a deputy before it was caught. Once it was caught, people posed for pictures with it.
It wasn't until the trial moved to another room and lights were turned off when the bats calmed down, the Texarkana Gazette reported. But the bat problem still persists. According to Circuit Judge Tom Cooper, the building is teeming with the winged creatures of the night.
Another county official said bats have taken refuge in the elevator shaft. A pest control expert is expected to investigate the situation next week.
