It was expected, really...with so many superheroes in film and television these days, we were bound to hit the proverbial wall when it comes to the ridiculousness of the villains and things would start seeping in the range of the campy, 60s "Batman" series. You might argue that people like Captain Cold and The Weather Wizard from "The Flash" are obscure, but dig this: TV Line is reporting that Melissa Benoist's Kara Zor-El, the hero at the center of CBS's "Supergirl" TV series, is going to face off against a villain named Lumberjack in the pilot.
Yes, you read that right.
Despite only appearing once in DC Comic lore, the show's version of Lumberjack will be an established villain in that universe who has previously tussled with Kara's cousin (yes, Superman) and is sent by a mysterious unseen villain to track down the full extent of Supergirl's powers and abilities. (One has to wonder though, if the Lumberjack has already squared off against Superman, wouldn't he just assume she has very similar powers to his?)
Either way, there's sure to be a large audience for this show...at least at the outset, when most of the older people who watch CBS regularly tune in out of sheer confusion, and the geek crowd tunes in out of pure (morbid?) curiosity.
What would be truly awesome is if the producers could somehow work Monty Python's hysterical "Lumberjack Song" into the episode. Now that would be something worth tuning in for...
