The New York Yankees visit Camden Yards on Friday to face the Baltimore Orioles. The game starts at 7:05 p.m. ET. Listen to audio or watch the live stream HERE.
Friday night will be highlighted by Orioles pitcher T.J. McFarland's first major league start, the Associated Press reports. Orioles pitcher Kevin Gausman was scheduled to start the series opener, but manager Buck Showalter chose to give the nod to McFarland.
Gausman, also a rookie, is 0-3 with a 7.66 ERA through five starts.
McFarland (1-0, 4.14 ERA) has played in 18 games for Baltimore, primarily in long relief. He threw two scoreless innings against the Yankees on April 14, although the club ultimately lost 3-0,
Showalter expects McFarland to throw close to 80 pitches on Friday.
"Mac is throwing the ball well and deserves an opportunity while we have an opportunity to take a look at it," Showalter told reporters. "We had a couple options, he was one of them and that's where we are going to go tomorrow."
MacFarland faces an offensively-stagnant Yankees team. New York has only 56 runs since June 7 and are 7-11 during that span. Their hitting average is a dismal .210 in that time, and their 10 home runs rank last.
"If you don't score runs, that becomes an issue," Yankees manager Joe Girardi told the team's website. "I believe we're capable of scoring runs. I think we can. But time will tell."
David Phelps (5-4, 4.01) will take the mound Friday night for New York. Phelps threw four scoreless innings and gave up only one hit on April 13 in the Yankees' 5-3 loss to Baltimore. This season, Phelps is 4-3 with a 3.63 ERA over 10 starts.
