A Florida man was arrested Saturday evening after police said he tried circumcising his 20-month-old nephew while the baby's father stepped out, the New York Daily News reported.
Larry Leroy Floyd, of Ocala, allegedly waited until his nephew's dad left to go food shopping before he took a kitchen knife and tried performing the procedure, Police Sgt. Michael Sommer told the newspaper.
An unnamed brother-in-law, who was also in the home but in another room, "heard the baby crying as the father arrived (back home)," Sommer said. "[The brother-in-law] rushed out and said your son is bleeding."
Police were called to the house, owned by Floyd's sister, but by the time they arrived the father had already taken his son to the hospital. The boy's condition was not immediately available, but Sommer said he is expected to recover, the Daily News reported.
The 24-year-old, who was supposed to be babysitting his nephew, was charged with domestic aggravated battery.
Floyd has previous arrests for domestic violence, trespassing, drug possession and stalking a child, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
Sommer told the Daily News he does not yet know why Floyd allegedly tried circumcising his nephew.
