A northern Virginia man who was attempting to impersonate a policeman ended up pulling over a car being driven by a real cop, Prince William County Police said.
Shawn Michael Robinson, of Alexandria, Va., is behind bars without bail after he allegedly pulled over a car in Virginia that was being driven by an off-duty officer on Jan. 29, WUSA9 reported.
Around 1 a.m. on Thursday, Robinson was driving a white Crown Victoria close behind the off-duty officer's car along Dumfries road when the 27-year-old decided to turn on a spotlight attached to his car.
Assuming the driver was a police officer as well, the off-duty cop pulled over but was surprised when the Crown Victoria pulled up alongside him instead of parking behind and an officer getting out, WUSA-TV in Washington, D.C., reported.
When the off-duty cop identified himself and revealed that he was a police officer, Robinson reportedly took off immediately.
Although the unidentified off-duty police officer quickly followed and chased him, Robinson was able to ditch the car and flee on foot.
Following the incident, the 27-year-old suspect turned himself in on Thursday after police authorities issued a warrant for his arrest, according to New York Daily News.
Currently, Robinson is being held without bond on a charge of impersonating an officer and is due in court on March 4, police said. It remains unclear whether Robinson has an attorney.
