Serena Williams faces Kimiko Date Krumm on Saturday for round three of the 2013 Wimbledon Championships. It's the fourth match on No. 1 Court, and start at approximately 3 p.m. ET. Watch the LIVE STREAM here, or watch Wimbledon's free coverage here.
World No. 1 Williams entered Wimbledon playing some of the best tennis of her career. After capturing her sixth title this year at the French Open, her momentum hasn't once sputtered. She blew past Mandy Minella (6-1, 6-3) and Caroline Garcia (6-3, 6-2) en route to the third round.
Perhaps even more astonishing is how Williams has played on the grass without any match practice, TennisEarth.com reports. On a slippery surface that's felled and retired numerous competitors, Williams' performances appeared to look unaffected.
Capturing the Wimbledon trophy would give Williams her 53rd Career Title. The dominance Williams has shown this season made her the favorite to win the tournament, and her odds are even more favorable with the early exits of Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova.
Krumm is the next obstacle in Williams' way to capturing her second straight Wimbledon title, sixth overall. Krumm, 42, has seemingly defied age and continues to compete at a high level. A former World No. 4, she made it as far as the semifinals in the 1996 Wimbledon Championships. With eight titles won in her career, Krumm is a Top-100 competitor who ranks No. 84 in the World.
Krumm's already made Wimbledon history as the oldest player to make the third round. She has an unconventional, albeit effective, stroke that could see her become the oldest player to make it to the fourth round.
Making additional history on Saturday, however, appears unlikely for Krumm. Williams is the overwhelming favorite to advance.
Saturday is Williams and Krumm's first meeting.
