'Metal Gear Solid': An 'Open World' Version of the PS1 Title? Hideo Kojima Wants It to Happen

Hideo Kojima teased long time "Metal Gear" fans by putting the old PlayStation version of Snake in "Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes," but he would like to see it go a bit further than that, as he revealed at Taipei Game Show during a media session reported by Gamenesia (via Famitsu).

When queried about what he thinks about being able to play the earlier "Metal Gear" games on PlayStation 4, Kojima responded that he can't work on something like that since he's busy with the new game.

But the master game designer elaborated further by saying that he'd like to play in an open world Shadow Moses (the island location of the PS1 game "Metal Gear Solid"), so he'd like to see a remake of that game. Unfortunately, no one has stepped forward to actually do it.

Such a production, Kojima continued, would not only need the tools and the engine, but also the workforce, as he thinks everyone would like to play an open world version of "Metal Gear Solid."

Personally, I'd be on that like white on rice. "Metal Gear Solid" is still my favorite video game of all time, and playing it without the technical constraints of the original PlayStation, within an open world settings, would be something else for sure.

Some bold (and talented) developer needs to step up to the plate and make this happen. NOW.
