A knife-wielding man attacked French soldiers on anti-terror patrol in front of a Jewish community center on Tuesday, police said.
Police in the city of Nice said a man believed to be age 30 brandished a knife hidden in his bag and injured one soldier in the chin before wounding two others in the cheek and arm, the Associated Press reported.
He was apprehended by riot police stationed near the city of Nice's Jewish community center. An unidentified manager at the center confirmed the noon attack and said no one else was inside the building.
According to Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi, the attacker had an ID card with the name Moussa Coulibaly- the same last name of the man who staged a siege at a Kosher supermarket in Paris last month.
Coulibaly has a record of theft and violence, an unnamed official told the AP.
A possible accomplice is also in custody, Estrosi said.
Thousands of French troops have been dispatched to synagogues, mosques, and other key locations in light of a string of terrorist attacks that began Jan. 7 with a deadly assault on the newspaper Charlie Hebdo in Paris. Police killed three Islamist extremists, including Amedy Coulibaly, after a massive three-day manhunt.
It is not clear if police have confirmed a link between Amedy and Moussa Coulibaly. A motive is also not yet clear, police told the AP.
