No. 1 Kentucky remained undefeated with their 70-55 win on Saturday against Alabama. The Wildcats are now 21-0, but coach John Calipari is not yet satisfied - he believes his team can play even better.
"This team, the question is, how good can we be," Calipari said, via ESPN. "And I don't know yet. I'm trying to get guys to go to that next level. I'm prodding and pushing and screaming and yelling, go, because I really do want to see how good can we really be."
Things won't be any easier for Kentucky with the absence of freshman forward Trey Lyles, who missed Saturday's game because of an undisclosed illness and appears likely to be inactive Tuesday.
"Everybody on the team is going to have to step up because missing Trey, that's a big part of our offense and defense," sophomore guard Dominique Hawkins said of Lyles, who's averaging 7.5 points and 5.3 rebounds in 20 games. "He does so much for us, and like I said, everybody's going to have to find a way to step up a little bit."
Georgia (14-6) will also be without a player, senior forward Marcus Thornton. The Bulldogs' leading scorer (13.5 ppg) and rebounder (7.3 rpg) missed Saturday's loss at South Carolina because of concussion-related symptoms, accounting for one of the reasons Georgia's five-game winning streak ended.
"We missed Marcus' scoring and rebounding for sure, but we missed his leadership more than anything," said coach Mark Fox. "We just seemed disjointed on offense and that was disappointing. We are a team that can't afford to have two or three of our shooters have off nights. We'll need to put this game behind us and get ready for the next one."
