A new study has revealed that men turn 12 percent more attractive when dressed in a simple, white short-sleeved T-shirt with the letter T printed on it.
A new study from the Nottingham Trent University reveals the secret to attract women - dress in a simple white short-sleeved T-shirt. Researchers claim that a simple white T-shirt with a large black letter T printed in the front creates an illusion that brings out a V-shaped body in a man. Broad shoulders and slim waist is an ideal build for a man and a sign of masculinity. Researchers observed that men were found 12 percent more attractive in such attire.
Researchers found best results in participants who were most out of shape than those who were already well toned. The attraction quotient among well toned men was increased slightly because the printed letter T only brought focus to the body shape they already had. Whereas the attractiveness was greater in men with waist as wide as their shoulders, as the letter T on the plain white t-shirt emphasized the upper chest and shifted the focus from the waistline, according to Nottingham Trent University psychologist Dr Andrew Dunn, reports Daily Mail.
The study involved 30 female undergraduates aged between 18 to 25 years who were asked to rate men based on their perceived attractiveness and health. Researchers showed pictures of models wearing plain white t-shirts with no print and with an upright and inverted T printed on the front with different shapes and sizes.
Researchers said that the ideal shape of a body in men is with a waist-to-chest ratio (WCR) of between 0.7 and 0.8, where the shoulders are around 20 percent broader than the waist.
"The wider barred 'T' seems to emphasize the upper chest when upright, which accentuates men's 'optimum' shape. The opposite happens when inverted," Dunn said. "WCR is one of just a number of body measures that humans use to judge attractiveness and health."
The results based on the ratings of the young women showed that men wearing upright T-illusion tops were found to be more attractive than those with no letter or inverted T printed on the T-shirt. Dunn noted that longer the horizontal bar in the letter T, better was the rate of attractiveness for men.
