'Sister Wives’ Divorce: Kody Brown Leaves Wife of 20 Years to Legally Marry Another Woman

Maybe Kody Brown has one wife too many.

E! News confirmed that the "Sister Wives" star has legally divorced his first wife of 20 years, Meri Brown, to marry his fourth and youngest wife yet, Robyn Brown. Despite claiming to have four wives - Meri, Robyn, Christine and Janelle - the reality star legally only has one.

In a statement issued to E! News, Kody explained the decision divorce and remarry was made by the entire family.

"We have chosen to legally restructure our family," the Brown family revealed to E! News. "We made this decision together as a family. We are grateful to our family, friends and fans for all their love and support."

According to court documents obtained by Radar Online, Kody, 46, and Meri, 44, married in 1990 and secretly divorced last fall. Their divorce was finalized just two weeks after they filed jointly on September 12, 2014. Kody and Meri share 18-year-old daughter Mariah but have struggled to conceive more children.

On Dec. 5, 2014, Kody and Robyn - who joined the polygamist family in 2010 - applied for a wedding license. The Brown family has 22 members, including 17 children - six children with Janelle, six children with Christine, and a son with current wife Robyn, who has three other children from a pervious relationship.

"Sister Wives," which is currently in its sixth season, follows the family's polygamist lifestyle. Robyn has admitted on camera her doubts about being a part of a plural-marriage family.

"I'm happy on the good days and when Kody shows love and affection, but on a bad day, I question my importance to the family and if Kody still care about me," Robyn admitted on "Sister Wives."

"Sister Wives" airs on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on TLC.
