A missing elderly Michigan man, whose family said he won the lottery, was found stabbed to death in a vacant home on Sunday, police told the Detroit Free Press.
Arthur Neal Jr., 86, went missing Dec. 20 not long after his family said he won a $20,000 lottery. At the time his granddaughter told news outlets that Neal, last seen at his Detroit home, would not leave without telling his family.
The mason worker was found dead in the basement of a vacant house with his body covered, officer Adam Madera, spokesman for the Detroit police, told the newspaper. The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office said Neal died from multiple stab wounds and his death is being investigated as a homicide.
The granddaughter, Lawanda Marshall, previously expressed concern that her grandfather's disappearance could have been related to him winning the lottery. His home was found ransacked when he went missing, she told CBS Detroit.
Police did not say who found the body and investigators have not been able to confirm if Neal won the lottery or if anyone claimed the winnings in his name.
