Earlier this month 18-year-old rapper Lil Snupe was shot and killed. According to KNOE TV station, the young rapper was shot twice in the torso; his body was found at the Maplewood Apartment complex in Louisiana. The death of Lil Snupe, who was in town to perform a concert, largely remained a mystery. Over the weekend, hundreds attended the funeral of the rapper including Meek Mill, who is responsible for signing the rapper to his label DreamChasers.
According to the Shreveport Times, the funeral was held at the Jonesboro-Hodge High School in Lil Snupe's hometown of Jonesboro, La. The newspaper reports that mourners began arriving at the high school three hours before the service began.
"I'm never one to talk (at funerals)," Mill told the newspaper. "I saw something in him. His demo tape spoke to me. I saw myself in him."
Last week, police revealed that the shooting was a result of an altercation that erupted while playing video games at a friend's apartment, MTV reports. According to the Associated Press, Tony Holden, the 36-year-old man police suspected in the rapper's death, turned himself in and has been charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
At the time of the shooting, the rapper's younger brother Sedarian Joe told KNOE TV station how much his brother loved music. Many people in the industry felt Lil Snupe had a promising career.
"I really loved my brother. It shocked me this morning when my momma came and told me," Joe said at the time of his brother's death. "I really couldn't believe it at first, it just hurt my heart real bad whenever she told me. For his momma I really feel bad for her because can't nobody feel the pain like she can."
Following the funeral Meek Mill and DreamChasers released a video tribute in honor of Lil Snupe.
