New York Knicks power forward Amare Stoudemire , tied the knot with long-time love, Alexis Welch this weekend, according to US Weekly citing a confirmation from Stoudemire’s rep.
Technically, the two have been married since December. The pair made it official last year on 12/12/12. However, they wanted to eventually throw a larger ceremony to invite all their loved ones.
"This is fairy tale amazing down to every last detail," a source told the magazine. It was held at the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens located in Miami, Florida. The couple’s guests stayed at the Fontainbleay hotel.
Among the notable attendees were Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony and center Tyson Chanler along with many other members of the team. Also in attendance was Sarah Blakely, the creator of Spanx, along with her husband Jessie Itzler.
"The ceremony was beautiful," another source told Us. "There wasn't a dry eye in the place. Amazing venue, food was awesome."
Welch is the mother of Stoudemire’s four children—a newborn baby boy, their daughters Assata and Are, and their son Amare. The couple has been together since 2002. According to a New York Post article from early June, they met after Stoudemire got drafted by the Phoenix Suns and while Welch was still in highs school.
“Since we were both 19, they put us in a private room in the back of the club. He was wearing a Kansas City Chiefs Joe Montana jersey,” says Welch who was an athlete herself starring in basketball, track, and volleyball while in high school. “I’m originally from there, so we started talking about Montana when he played there.”
Welch, who is 5’10” also liked the fact the future NBA star was 6’11”. “I’ve always liked guys who were taller than me when I wear heels,” she said. The couple got engaged in June 2012 during a trip to Paris.
The entire weekend was planned by Colin Cowie, the famous event planner for Oprah Winfrey. Welch had six bridesmaids and Stoudemire had 11 groomsmen.
Accoridng to Us citing a source, Welch's wedding gown was by J'Antoni and her reception gown was by Oscar De la Renta. Stoudemire wore a wedding suit from the Calvin Klein Collection and a reception suit—complete with a red jacket—by Lanvin.
