Sloane Stephens meets Marion Bartoli on Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Wimbledon Championships. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. ET. Watch the live stream here.
The quarterfinals this year is the furthest that World No. 17 Stephens has ever been at Wimbledon. With Serena Williams' exit on Monday from Wimbledon, Stephens steps into the light as the last American left in Wimbledon.
She's seemed to find her rhythm, TennisEarth.com reports. The 20-year-old reached the round of 16 at the Italian Open before falling to Maria Sharapova, and she again made it to the pre-quarters at the French Open before once more falling to Sharapova.
Stephens has been able to step up during Wimbledon at the most opportune times. She's gone through Jamie Hampton, Andrea Petkovic, Petra Cetkowska and Monica Puig to get to Tuesday's quarterfinal. Reaching the semifinals at Wimbledon will be the second time she's ever reached a major semifinal. Her first appearance happened at this year's Australian Open, where she defeated Serena Williams in the quarterfinals before losing to eventual champion Victoria Azarenka.
Now Bartoli stands in her way from a semifinal appearance.
Bartoli, 28, has 7 WTA titles to her name and has traditionally fared well on grass. The World No. 15 has played nearly perfect tennis this year at Wimbledon, and she has yet to drop a set. She enters the quarterfinals with a head of steam and has the chance to send the last American home.
The two have met once before, where Bartoli defeated Stephens in three sets. Regardless of their previous matchup, Stephen's strength as a striker makes her the favorite to win.
TennisEarth predicts Stephens to win in three sets.
