Casey Anthony Does Not Have to Pay Her Lawyer

A trustee's report filed in federal court states that Jose Baez, one of Casey Anthony's lawyers during her murder trial, in addition to the Orange County Sheriff's Office and the Internal Revenue Service, should not get any repayment from a bankruptcy settlement, according to Orlando Sentinel. The report suggests that the $25,000 from the sale of Anthony's story should go toward bankruptcy trustees.

With $792,000 listed debts, Anthony filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2013. Baez claims he is owed $397,431. Other creditors include the Orange County Sheriff's Office ($145,660), the IRS ($80,855) and Texas EquuSearch ($100,000), according to Orlando Sentinel.

EquuSearch was the agency that searched Central Florida for Anthony's daughter, Caylee, in 2008 even though Anthony knew her 2-year-old daughter was already dead.

The report says that Anthony is permitted to keep her remaining assets of $474 in cash and $610 worth of jewelry, clothing, books and a bike.

In 2011, Anthony was found not guilty of all charges, except the misdemeanor charges for misleading law enforcement. Anthony has been in hiding since the acquittal.

Baez told Orlando Sentinel that he was unable to comment as he had not seen the report.

In 2013, a bankruptcy judge ruled that Anthony did not have to pay many of her creditors, according to Orland Sentinel, but how much she would have to pay was unclear.
