Pierce Brosnan’s Daughter Loses Battle With Ovarian Cancer, Same Disease That Killed Her Mom and Grandmother

Pierce Brosnan's daughter, Charlotte Brosnan, lost her battle with ovarian cancer and died, Reuters reports. Charlotte, 41, died after a three-year battle with the same disease that killed her mom and grandmother. The "James Bond" 007 actor released a statement about his daughter's death.

"Charlotte fought her cancer with grace and humanity, courage and dignity. Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our beautiful dear girl," Brosnan said. "We pray for her and that the cure for this wretched disease will be close at hand soon."

The actor, who was in Europe filming his latest movie "November Man," rushed to be by his daughter's side when he heard the news. Charlotte was reportedly surrounded by her family when she died including her husband Alex, her two children Isabella and Lucas, and her brothers Christopher and Sean. The Brosnan family has dealt with the loss of a family member to cancer in the past. In 1991, Charlotte's mother and Pierce's first wife, Cassandra Harris, died from ovarian cancer at the age of 43, the New York Daily News reports. Charlotte's grandmother also died from the disease.

In the 1980s Pierce adopted Charolotte and her brother Christopher after their biological father died. The British actor and Harris later had a son, Sean, together. In 2001 he married journalist Keely Shaye Smith who he has two children with.

In his new film "Love Is All You Need" Pierce plays a widower who falls in love with a woman who has cancer. He told Mirror Online earlier this year that role made him reflect some of the similar tragedies he has had to face in his life.

"I went through it all, very publicly," he told the paper. "Such things draw a mark across your heart and it's always a part of your life. To watch someone you love have their life eaten away - bit by bit, by this insidious and horrid disease - becomes an inedible part of your psyche."
