Veteran free agent Ray Allen will decide on a team to play for within the next 10 days, according to a report from Fox Sports' Sam Amico. The report also indicated Allen had reservations about signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers when former teammate LeBron James visited him earlier in January.
The Ray Allen Watch will continues for at least another 10 days, and the Cavaliers are still in contention to land him, according to Amico.
"Teams led to believe Ray Allen to decide where he'll play in next 10 days," Amico tweeted Sunday. "Allen concerned with Cavs when LeBron visited, but not anymore."
James reportedly met with Allen in early January while rehabbing his back and knee injuries in Miami. ESPN reported James's visit was, at least in part, aimed at recruiting Allen. During that time, though, Cleveland was under .500 and struggling to keep in the Eastern Conference playoff mix.
The Cavaliers look like a completely different team now, however. Cleveland has won 13 of their last 14 games, including 12 straight until their loss on Feb. 6 at Indiana.
While most believe Allen will sign with Cleveland if he returns for his 19th season, he isn't short of suitors. The Atlanta Hawks, the Los Angeles Clippers and the Washington Wizards all have purportedly expressed interest in the 39-year-old 3-point specialist.
Atlanta has emerged as an intriguing possibility, given they look like championship contenders and their catch-and-shoot system, which has worked so well for Kyle Korver, would be perfect for Allen.
