A 19-year-old has been charged and arrested after his girlfriend was found dead in a central Pennsylvania university dorm room on Sunday.
Gregorio Orrostieta and Karli Hall, 18, were reportedly in a physical altercation before she died at Millersville University, CBS News reported. The 18-year-old victim was found unresponsive in her dorm after authorities responded to a cardiac arrest call.
The cause of the Hall's "suspicious" death remains under investigation while an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
On early Sunday, Orrostieta and Hall got into an argument at a party, where Hall ended up hitting Orrostieta. But the couple allegedly made up and returned to the dorm room.
Around 1:30 a.m., Orrostieta reportedly shoved his girlfriend, causing her to hit her head on a chair and fall to the ground. Then he gave a "back hand" to her face, immediately leading her to become unresponsive, according to the affidavit and a university statement.
Hall, a freshman from Chadds Ford, Penn., was allegedly "severely beaten," according to anonymous sources quoted by Lancaster Online.
When campus police responded to an emergency call around 5 a.m. at the Bard Hall dormitory, they found the 19-year-old blood-covered suspect performing CPR on the victim. His shirt was ripped, exposing scratch marks on his chest and he had blood on his hands and jeans, the affidavit said.
According to a picture posted on Hall's Facebook a day before her death, Orrostieta had been visiting her for the weekend, according to UK MailOnline.
Millersville president John Anderson called Hall's death "unfathomable" while the university's communications director, Janet Kacskos, said Hall's death has shaken the 8,000-student state-owned university near Lancaster.
"We've never had this happen. We're a pretty bucolic, rural campus. Very safe," Kacskos said, adding that Orrostieta, who did not attend Millersville, and Hall were from neighboring Philadelphia suburbs.
Meanwhile Orrostieta, of Kennett Square, Penn., was arraigned on an aggravated assault charge and jailed at the Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $1.5 million bail on Monday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 19.
Anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to contact the Millersville University Police at (717) 871-4357, Fox News reported.
