France meets Turkey on Tuesday in the U20 World Cup round of 16. The match begins at 2 p.m. ET. Watch the live stream HERE.
France qualified for the round of 16 by placing second in Group A, Goal.com reports. Their four points give the squad an opportunity to reach the U20 semifinals for the first time since 2011. France's advancement from the group stage, however, could be chalked up to a lack of competition in Group A.
Spain topped the group with 9 points and three wins. France was a distant second, having only one win in the U20 tournament. Ghana was its closest competitor with 3 points and one win, but two losses. USA earned one point with one draw and two losses.
France's lone victory came in the opening match against Ghana, 3-1. The squad's following two games were inconsistent, with USA coming back in the last five minutes of the second match to force a draw. France then lost to Spain in the group stage finale, 2-1.
Paul Pogba returns from suspension on Tuesday and is expected to play against Turkey, according to the FIFA website.
Turkey also advanced to the second stage by placing second in Group C. The squad earned 6 points in their two wins and one loss in the group stage. Colombia took first in the group with 7 points in their two wins and one draw. El Salvador had 3 points in its one win and two losses, and Australia managed a single point in its one draw and two losses.
Turkey, as the host nation of the tournament, automatically qualified for the U20 World Cup. It's the squad's first appearance in the Cup since 2005.
Despite only winning four points in three matches, William Hill has France as the favorite to win.
