WWII Reenactment Goes Awry When 'German Soldier' Shot By Real Bullet

A World War II reenactment in Texas on Saturday got a little too life-like for one participant who was accidentally shot with a real bullet, KFDX reported.

A man identified by family as Alan Scott Fullerton was playing the role of a German fighter during the annual reenactment at Fort Richardson State Park when he was shot in the stomach.

All participants were told to put their guns on the ground and a ceasefire was declared right after the 1 p.m. shooting, according to the Jacksboro Gazette-News.

Fullteron was initially rushed to Faith Community Hospital but was later transferred to Denton, KFDX reported. His condition is said to be stable.

Park officials are now trying to determine how live ammunition ended up in the guns. All weapons are checked twice before each battle- once by park staff and a second by someone from the reenactment group, the station reported.

The same went for Saturday's reenactment.

"Everything that was inspected at 9 a.m. was crimped, black ammo," Robert Frie, superintendent of Fort Richardson State Park, told the Jacksboro Gazette-News.

It's the first time someone was actually shot in the event's five-year history, Robert McCorkle, head of media relations for Texas Parks and Wildlife, told KFDX.

Law enforcement from Jacksboro and Jack County are also investigating the incident.
