Alicia Silverstone Kicks Off Breast Milk Sharing Program, Advocates Clean Living

Alicia Silverstone has kicked off a campaign that partners moms up with other mothers who want to share their breast milk.

Kind Mama Milk Share seeks out healthy mothers who are willing to share their supply of milk with other moms who might not be able to feed from their mammary glands.

Silverstone said she was inspired to start the milk share group after a friend told the 36-year-old actress of her struggle to find legitimate breast milk to feed her baby following a breast-reduction surgery that stunted her supply of milk, according to People.

On her website The Kind Life, Silverstone relayed her friend's hardship.

"She tried reaching out in her community for donor milk, but it was almost impossible to figure out what kind of lifestyle choices the donors had made," she said. "And after all that hard work keeping herself vibrant and healthy, she felt she had a right to demand better for her baby."

The Clueluess actress, who is known for advocating such lifestyles as raw veganism, stressed that clean, healthy living was a vital part of this program.

"Because we are a community of beautiful souls who recognize the importance of food as health, I say we help support those mamas and babies who need a hand during one of the most important times in their lives," Silverstone wrote. "If you have milk to share-post it! If you are in need of milk-post it! Think of all the babies we can help raise together!"

Most experts claim that sharing breast milk is not a health hazard, but according to the New York Daily News, the FDA does not recommend milk shares with strangers, because the milk is not tested for potential viruses like HIV.

In 2012, Silverstone stoked controversy for chewing up her then-10-month-old son Bear Blu Jarecki's food and then feeding it to him.

The public was stunned by her tactic-one that she claimed parents have been using for thousands of years.

"It's a weaning process," Silverstone said on The Insider. "I think it's adorable and I laugh every time he does it."
