It's been nearly three years since rock/pop group Fun released an album, and fans are starting to take notice.
The trio made up of singer Nate Ruess, guitarist Jack Antonoff and keyboardist Andrew Dost took over the music world in 2012 with its hit songs "Carry On," "Some Nights" and "We Are Young" - but two years after winning the Grammy for Best New Artist the group has been incredibly inactive.
In the midst of all the rumors about the band members going their separate ways, the group took to Facebook to announce that it is not breaking up.
In a lengthy post, Fun started by explaining that it would rather give "updates when they are ready," but felt that it needed to address the recent rumors surrounding the group. It continued stating that the band has always been three individuals who work together but also have separate projects.
"Fun was founded by the 3 of us at a time when we were coming out of our own bands," the post read. "One thing that has always been so special about fun is that we exist as 3 individuals in music who come together to do something collaborative. We make fun records when we are super inspired to do so.
"Sometimes that inspiration leads to fun music, sometimes it leads to musical endeavors outside of fun. We see all of it as part of the ecosystem that makes fun, fun."
Currently the band claims its hasn't been inspired to hit the studio together but said that the members are working on separate projects. Ruess is working on his first solo album while Dost has found an interest in films, scoring music for movies including "The D Train," starring Jack Black and James Marsden, which appeared at the Sundance Film Festival. Antonoff recently released an album under the name Bleachers.
"We want to treat YOU GUYS (our amazing fan base) with the respect you deserve; and that is by making music when we are fully ready to make it and never giving you guys anything that is less than 100%," the band continued. "'Some Nights' was a successful album and it would have been very easy for us to jump back in the studio and capitalize on our momentum. but making records and touring when its good for business means nothing to us. we make records and tour when we are inspired to do so."
Fun concluded the post, writing, "It's also important for you guys to know that the 3 of us are very involved and supportive of all these different projects going on within the fun family at the moment. That fact that our tiny club can produce so many different kinds of music together and as individuals is very special to us. As always, we'll keep you guys updated!"
Despite the note, Billboard reported that the band members have gone their separate ways, adding that the three men are on "shaky terms" with one another for months due to a "clash of egos." An unnamed source told the publication that the members have had little or no communication within the past few months.
Billboard also claimed that the lengthy post appeared after the publication tried to reach out to the band for comments about its future together.
