'Resident Evil HD Remaster' Takes the Top Slot in PlayStation Store Sales

An HD remaster of a 20-year-old game took the top spot in the PlayStation Store's list of best-selling games on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 last month, according to a post on the PlayStation Blog.

While the "Resident Evil" high-def remaster came in first across both generations of Sony consoles, developer Techland's "Dying Light" followed on PS4 while Mojang's "Minecraft" took the second position on PS3. "Grand Theft Auto 5" rounded out the top three on both consoles.

In a press release from Capcom, the developer stated that the game is its "fastest selling digital title in history across North America and Europe."

I'd be more than curious to know how well this remaster sold on the other platforms. Did it sell so well on the PlayStation platform because that's where the majority of "Resident Evil" games originated and people remember them that way as I do? Hard to say at this point, but it is an interesting notion.

For more on Capcom's "Resident Evil HD" remake, which was released Jan. 20 and is also available on Xbox 360, Xbox One and Windows PC, you can check out my thoughts on it right here.

Spoiler Alert: It's damn good and well-deserving of the top slot.
