No. 14 Iowa State heads into Monday's game looking for their second straight win after an inconsistent two-and-a-half weeks. They've won four of their last six games, including Saturday's 75-38 blowout of Texas Tech. Junior forward Jameel McKay tallied 17 points on 7-for-7 shooting, eight rebounds, three blocks and two steals in the rout, and junior guard Naz Long chipped in with 15 points to help the Cyclones split the series after their 78-73 loss two weeks ago in Lubbock.
"Having lost a big one down there, we took this personal," Long said after the game Saturday, via ESPN. "We were taking a lot of hits defensively, so we took that upon ourselves to keep our guys in front of us, run guys off the 3-point line and I feel like we did a good job of that."
The Cyclones did tighten up their defense on Saturday, especially on the perimeter. After letting Texas Tech go 11-for-24 from 3-point in their first outing, Iowa State limited the Red Raiders to 4-for-20 from behind the arc, according to ESPN.
"They weren't as comfortable," Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg said of Texas Tech. "They were so comfortable down there, especially early in that game. They were getting uncontested shots. That has been a big emphasis in practice the last couple of days."
No. 17 Oklahoma, meanwhile, is on the rise after stringing together four straight wins. Their latest victory came on Saturday in a 68-56 win at TCU. Hoiberg knows his team is in for a dogfight, especially since his team has lost nine of their last 10 games on Oklahoma's home court.
"They're playing great basketball right now, so it's going to be a heck of a challenge," Hoiberg said. "It's a big game for us. It's a big game for them so it should be entertaining."
