A mother in Ohio was arrested for allegedly helping her boyfriend rape her own 8-year-old daughter after the child was brave enough to come forward and report the abuse, ABC 6/Fox 28 reported.
Police say the child escaped from her Columbus home to a neighbor's house over the weekend, where she revealed her mother held her down on several occasions while her mom's boyfriend, Alberto Hernandez, raped her.
"It makes me sick to my stomach to think that a mother could allow that to happen to her children," an unidentified neighbor, who called 911 on the child's behalf, told ABC 6/Fox 28.
The mother, whose name is withheld to protect the child's identity, allegedly slapped her daughter if she moved during the assaults.
"I guess he tried to rape the 8-year-old, and the little girl had enough strength to get up and get out of there," the neighbor told the station.
The 8-year-old is now safe in the custody of her father.
Her mother denied the charges as she and Hernandez appeared before a judge on Monday. Hernandez was held on $2 million bond while his girlfriend was held for $1 million.
