No. 1 Kentucky remains undefeated with a 23-0 record after narrowly escaping Florida on Saturday with a 68-61 win. That makes for Kentucky's last two games - Florida and an 11-point win on Feb. 3 against Georgia - coming by a relatively close margin, something that doesn't seem to alarm coach John Calipari.
"It's typical this time of year," he told the Associated Press on Monday. "Our season was stretched out a little bit. (It) started down in the Bahamas and so it's a long year. (And) We're trying to do this without Trey (Lyles, out with an illness). We're basically holding down the fort without Trey."
Losing Lyle's 7.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game is a blow to the Wildcats, who feel like they have a target on their backs because of their unbeaten record.
"I think every team really wants to beat us just because we have the No. 1 ranking at the moment and just that bulls-eye on our backs," said point guard Andrew Harrison. "I've been trying to tell the team, just take it personal. They're trying to rush the floor on us and everything. Don't let them do that."
Kentucky has won seven of their last eight games against LSU, but it was the Tigers who came away with the win when the teams met last February.
Unranked LSU is 17-6 after bouncing back from consecutive losses with a 71-60 win on Saturday against Alabama, thanks to 24 points from forward Jordan Mickey and 16 points from fellow forward Jarell Martin.
