Rumors continue to spread around Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S6 smartphone, the latest claiming that one model will have a screen that covers all three sides.
People with knowledge of the situation say the device, which is expected make its debut at the Mobile World Congress in March, will appear alongside another model of the S6 that will only have a display on the front, according to Bloomberg. They added that both models will have all-metal bodies and 5.1-inch screens while running on Samsung's most advanced processors.
One source said the phones' metal frames will be provided by BYD Electronic International Co., a subsidiary of Chinese automaker BYD Co.
The Galaxy S6 would be a valuable tool for South Korean tech giant in regaining its position in the smartphone market, with the popularity of Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus playing a large role in Samsung's share of the global market declining from 30 percent to 20 percent, CNET reported. Xiaomi, Huawei and other Chinese vendors also took away Samsung's sales in growing markets.
Samsung is also focusing on providing an improved camera in the new phone, describing in a post on its Samsung Tomorrow site how it makes the camera on each smartphone better than the previous generation.
"We meticulously evaluate every single facet of our smartphone cameras by taking over 10,000 photos in every imaginable lighting environment for analysis," the company said. "The same passion and dedication has been put into building the cameras for the release of our 2015 flagship model. It will be intelligent and do all the thinking for users, allowing them to take amazing pictures under any conditions, without having to worry about anything more than just pressing the shutter button."
The Galaxy S6 wouldn't be the first multi-sided phone to come from Samsung, Bloomberg reported. The 5.6-inch Galaxy Note Edge debuted last year with a screen that stretches down the right side, providing a new angle from which users to read texts.
