Punxsutawney Phil, the famous Pennsylvania groundhog, is being sought by police for failure to warn residents about the "mountains of snow" in his annual weather prediction, ABC News has learned.
Police in Merrimack, New Hampshire, announced Tuesday that an "arrest warrant" was issued for the critter, who on Groundhog Day last Monday saw his shadow and predicted another six weeks of winter.
But Punxsutawney Phil- named after the Pennsylvania borough he lives in- said nothing about the nonstop blizzards and tremendous snowfall that would pummel the Northeast. Boston saw its snowiest February on record, according to ABC News.
"We have received several complaints from the public that this little varmint is held up in a hole, warm and toasty," the Merrimack Police Department wrote in a Facebook post that's been liked and shared over 3,000 times.
"He told several people that Winter would last 6 more weeks, however, he failed to disclose that it would consist of mountains of snow!"
Police warned the public not to approach the groundhog "as he is armed and dangerous."
