'Doom' Modder Replaces SFX With His Own Mouth Sounds...And It's Hysterical (WATCH IT)

Here's one for you old school gamers out there...like me.

A resolute "Doom" fan who goes by the name "Mallo" released a mod of the game in which he replaced all of the game's normal sound effects with his own vocal approximations of those noises. The result is a pretty damn hilarious aural experience for anyone who plays it. The team at Rock, Paper, Shotgun put together a gameplay video so we can all see just how ridiculous it really is. Check it out below.

It has been well-known for many years that "Doom" can be a highly customizable experience by swapping and/or altering out its .WAD (WAD stands for "Where's All the Data?") files for whatever the modder desires. Throughout the years, I've seen (and played) a Barney "Doom" mod, an Evil Dead "Doom" mod and even a Batman "Doom" mod, and they were all pretty cool...but this one definitely takes the cake.

What's amazing to me is that people are still finding ways to be creative with a video game that was released in the early 90s. Just goes to show you how awesome, and well-constructed, an experience "Doom" is on all levels.

If you'd like to know more about the game's overall development (and just why those .WAD files were specifically made to be highly customizable), I can't recommend David Kushner's 2003 book "Masters of Doom" highly enough.

Otherwise, just enjoy the complete craziness of this video:
