Former Chicago Cubs pitcher Scott Feldman makes his debut on Wednesday for the Baltimore Orioles. The Cubs traded the right-handed veteran for Orioles pitchers Jake Arrieta and Pedro Strop, along with $338,100 in international signing slot bonuses.
Feldman went 7-6 with a 3.46 ERA in 15 starts for the Cubs, according to the Associated Press.
"He's a proven veteran starting pitcher, and he should help stabilize our rotation in the second half of the season," Orioles executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette told the team website.
Feldman returns to the AL after playing his first eight seasons for the Texas Rangers, including the 2005-06 season under Buck Showalter, who currently manages Baltimore.
Against AL teams this year, Feldman posted a 2-0 record with a 1.89 ERA in three starts.
"He's a guy with some American League background," Showalter told reporters. "Scotty is what he is. He's a competitive guy."
Feldman can help the Orioles rebound from its 5-2 loss on Tuesday against Chicago, which broke their four-game winning streak. Adam Dunn's two-run homer capped off a three-run seventh inning for Chicago and ended their five-game skid.
"We know how good we are. We know we've got a hell of a road ahead of us. We did it to ourselves," winning pitcher John Danks told reporters. "But at the same time, we know how capable we are of going on a run. We just hope that we're able to do it starting now. We know we're running out of time."
Hector Santiago (3-5, 3.59 ERA) is slated to start for Chicago. He failed to hold a 5-0 lead and gave up five second-inning runs, seven hits and three walks. He didn't make it past the third inning in Friday's 19-10 loss to the Cleveland Indians.
