An orphaned otter cub who was found crying out for her mother in Perthshire, Scottland was rescued by the Scottish SPCA.
Dipper, the 8-weeks-old otter cub, was extremely frail when she was rescued but with a little help from the Scottish SPCA she is on her way to recovery.
The Scottish SPCA learned that Dipper was orphaned from a man's call on Feb. 4. The man called the animal welfare charity that night, but left the cub to give it's mother a chance to come back. When he checked up on the cub the next morning she was still frigid and alone, according to a Scottish SPCA news release.
This is when the Scottish SPCA stepped in.
"Dipper was too young to be out of her holt so it's amazing she survived a very cold night in the wild," said the news release. "She was extremely weak but after fluid therapy we're delighted to say she is doing much better. She is now stronger, feeding well from her bottle and wants to play, which we would expect for a cub of her age. Dipper will stay here until she is at least a year old old and we're hopeful she'll then be successfully returned to the wild."
