News site WTOP has compiled a helpful list of the best places to see the 2013 fireworks display for locals and tourists alike who want to see the show but might not want to bully their way through the crowds. Here are some of the best sites to see the fireworks in D.C.
Meridian Hill Park: Also known as "Malcolm X Park" this spot gives visitors a nice view of the National Mall without the hassle of the large crowd that congregates there every year.
Georgetown Waterfront Park: Offering a great view of the Potomac, visitors to this spot along the water can enjoy the sights from a bench and enjoy a treat on nearby M street, which is only a few blocks away.
Arlington Memorial Bridge: Framed on either side by the monuments, this is a great spot to view the festivities as long as you don't mind having to stand the entire half hour of the show.
The Washington Monument: Although this spot isn't ideal for those who want to beat the crowd, if you're an adventurer and want to get as close to the fireworks as possible, the monument is the place to be. Get there early and you can grab a spot. WTOP Suggests bringing earplugs because the sparklers are set off near the reflecting pool.
Thomas Jefferson Memorial: Not only is it a beautiful monument, but the Jefferson Memorial allows visitors to see two shows, the fireworks and the reflection of the fireworks in the Tidal Basin.
The National Cathedral: Being one of the highest points in the city ensures this spot is one of the best spots to see the fireworks. Although it's usually less crowded than other tourist areas, it's still worth it to get a spot early.
