According to an article at The Hollywood Reporter, James Franco has been cast in J.J. Abrams and Stephen King's upcoming Hulu series "11/22/63." This will be Franco's biggest series commitment since his "General Hospital" days. The actor got his big break on television in Judd Apatow's beloved series "Freaks and Geeks," but he is a well-known film star these days...so it's interesting that he's been lured back to TV.
The excellent novel by King follows a high school English teacher named Jake Epping, who will be played by Franco. Epping, through an odd set of circumstances, travels back in time and tries to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. This comes along with several challenges: His mission is threatened by a determined Lee Harvey Oswald, falling in love, and the fact that the past itself doesn't want to be changed and actively fights against such radical changes.
Bridget Carpenter ("Friday Night Lights," "Parenthood") is writing the script and she will executive produce the nine-hour-long mini-series alongside King and Bad Robot's Bryan Burk. There's a good deal of top-notch talent involved with this project, so hopefully that will show through in the final product.
A premiere date for "11/22/63" has not yet been determined.
