Emile Hirsch checked into a rehabilitation facility after his alleged assault on a studio executive during the Sundance Film Festival. He now faces charges for felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor intoxication.
Hirsch's lawyer Robert Offer claims his client has no memory of the incident given the copious amount of alcohol he consumed on the night in question, according to NBC News. He allegedly attacked the female Paramount Pictures studio executive, named Daniele Bernfeld, on Jan. 25 at the Tao nightclub in Park City, Utah.
"Emile takes these allegations very seriously, and is devastated that any of this has occurred. A few days after the incident, Emile sought help and check himself into an alcohol rehabilitation facility, where he remains today, to ensure nothing like this ever happens again," Offer said in a statement.
Bernfeld reportedly asked club security to call the police shortly after the incident, according to Page Six. A witness to the event claims that Hirsch "dragged [Bernfeld] across a table and onto the floor" and landed on top of her, according to NBC News.
The 29-year-old actor was at the festival to promote his new film "Ten Thousand Saints," co-starring Ethan Hawke, Asa Butterfield, Emily Mortimer, Julianne Nicholson and Hailee Steinfeld. He reportedly cooperated with police when they arrived to take his statement at the club.
"Emile didn't leave the scene, and calmly waited for the police to arrive, and spoke with them until around 5 a.m., after which he went home with his friends," a witness told Deadline at the time.
Hirsch has a court appointment scheduled for March 16. He faces up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine on the assault charge.
