Benedict Cumberbatch Marries Sophie Hunter On Valentine’s Day

Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter fled to the Isle of Wight to exchange their vows on the most romantic day of the year.

The newlyweds assembled about 100 of their closest friends and family for their wedding at the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Mottistone, England, according to People.com. The church has stood since the 12th century.

"It's a beautiful setting and very old English, very quaint and pretty," a local told People. "The church is not that big... I would say maybe 100 people maximum would fit in there."

The Oscar-nominated Cumberbatch and Hunter said "I do" in front of a few famous faces, including Tom Hiddleston and his fellow Oscar-nominee Keira Knightly, who stars opposite him in "The Imitation Game," according to reports. His "Sherlock" co-stars Martin Freeman (Dr. Watson) and Andrew Scott (Moriarty) were also in attendance.

The couple then ushered their guests to the Mottistone Manor for the wedding reception. The oldest parts of the home, on the 650-acre estate, date back to the 15th century, according to People.

Theater director Hunter also shares some family history with the manor. Her maternal great-great-grandfather was John Seely, the first Baron Mottistone, whose family purchased the property in the mid-19th century, according to E! News.

Cumberbatch and Hunter announced their engagement in a traditional manner back in November, placing a notice in the London Times. Two months later, the couple confirmed they were expecting their first child together.

"I am delighted to confirm that Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are expecting their first child," his rep told Us Weekly in January. "They are both over the moon."

The 38-year-old actor will have to delay his honeymoon with the 36-year-old Hunter until after he fulfills his requirements as an Oscar nominee. He will compete for Best Actor at the Academy Awards for his role as mathematician and cryptanalyst Alan Turing. Cumberbatch will also serve as a presenter at the ceremony.

The Oscars will air on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 8:30 p.m. on ABC.
