MLB Trade Rumors 2013: Gallardo Could go to Diamondbacks; Brewers Possibly Shopping Axford

The Milwaukee Brewers will most likely be sellers at the trading deadline with a 34-50 record and a last place ranking in the NL Central. There have been talks the team will be looking to trade their ace Yovani Gallardo before the end of the month. Gallardo said Thursday morning the trade rumors are currently not his biggest concern, according to MLB.com.

"You can think about it all you want, but there's nothing you can do," the six-year veteran said. "There's really nothing you can do. You just have to go out there and pitch, and then wait around to see what happens. It's already hard enough to pitch at this level to begin with, so the last thing you need is to be thinking about things like that."

Initially the Brewers were in talks with the Arizona Diamondbacks to make a deal which would include Gallardo and highly-touted Diamondback pitching prospect Tyler Skaggs, according to early reports from FOX Sports and CBS Sports.

Other names that have been discussed as possible trade pieces are Brewers relievers Francisco Rodriguez, John Axford and Jim Henderson.

Despite the rumors, nothing is close to being set in stone.

Gallardo would be a fine pickup for the Diamondbacks—or any team in the NL West—as they try to make a second-half push in a very crowded division. The NL West is separated by four games.

The Brewers ace has had a sub-par year with a 6-8 record and a 4.78 ERA. Hitters are also hitting .276 against the righty. However, he has been outstanding for most of his career. Over his career he is 75-51 with a 3.75 ERA and 1018 strikeouts.

The 27-year old is expected to make $7.75 million this year, $11.25 million in 2014 and his contract includes a $13 million club option for 2015 or a buyout of $600,000.

This is not the first time the Brewers have been in this situation. Last season, the team was looking to trade star pitcher Zack Greinke. However, the Brewers were more likely to trade Greinke because he would have been a free agent at the end of the season.
