Fox 5 San Diego Depicts Obama As Rape Suspect; Issues Apology

A Fox affiliate TV station made a huge blunder after it showed an image of President Barack Obama instead of a rape suspect last week.

Fox 5 San Diego, or KSWB-TV, showed a picture of Obama speaking into a microphone during a Friday night broadcast about a person suspected of a sexual assault at San Diego State University, according to Raw Story.

A caption that read "no charges" appeared under Obama's photo as anchor Kathleen Bade reported the San Diego County District Attorney's Office will not press charges against the 20-year-old suspect.

"The only suspect in a sex assault at SDSU will not be charged," Bade said during the broadcast.

Fox 5 assignment editor Mike Wille acknowledged the incident.

"Yeah, there was an accident when they had an over-the-shoulder" display, he said according to Raw Story. "It wasn't on purpose."

No immediate apology was given following the few seconds the president's image was shown as a suspect during the affiliate station's 10 p.m. news. But an apology was read by Fox 5 anchor Misha DiBono on Sunday evening.

"And we have an apology now. Friday night at 10 o'clock, we inadvertently used a photo of President Obama while reporting on a story about charges being dropped in a local case," she said. according to the Times of San Diego.

"We regret this error."

Wille said no one called the station to report the mistake during the incident.
