Speculation has run wild about who will host "The Daily Show" once Jon Stewart steps down later this year. A number of big names have been discussed, but one name closer to home quickly started trending on Twitter after Stewart's announcement last week.
#TheDailyShowWithJessicaWilliams quickly spread online by fans who wanted to see the 25-year-old correspondent Jessica Williams take over the reins. The new movie "Hot Tub Time Machine 2" even has a scene set in 2025 in which Williams is the host of the late-night show.
Williams put the speculation to rest on Sunday night when she took her name out of the running. She cited her young age and a difficulty handling political decisions that don't go the way she had hoped.
Fact 1: I'm not hosting. Thank you but I am extremely under-qualified for the job!

At this age (25) if something happens politically that I don't agree with, I need to go to my room & like not come out for, like, 7 days. — Jessica R. Williams (@msjwilly) February 16, 2015
That being said I am super not right for it, but there are quite a few people who are! Can't wait to stick around & see what happens. — Jessica R. Williams (@msjwilly) February 16, 2015
"Haha but I'm not like, dead. This is the beginning of my career. I'm gonna troll that ass for yrs," she tweeted.
Williams has served as a part of Stewart’s “Best F***ing News Team" since 2012. She has reported on hot topics such as female cat-calling, national food stamps and military regulations on African-American women’s hair styles.
Other names being mentioned include Aisha Tyler, Joel McHale, Chris Hardwick and Patton Oswalt as well as “Daily Show” correspondents Aasif Mandvi, Jordan Klepper or husband-wife duo Samantha Bee and Jason Jones.
“The Daily Show” airs on Mondays through Thursdays at 11 p.m. on Comedy Central.
