As the world eagerly awaits the birth of the royal baby, CNN Health has some predictions (and a photomorph!) on what the royal baby will look like, and whether or not the future heir will resemble their mother Kate Middleton or father Prince William more.
The world will watch as the royal baby grows up after witnessing the highly publicized birth of the future prince or princess (Middleton's due date is July 11 or 13), and many are wondering if the baby will have straight hair like Middleton or curly hair like Prince William, whether they will have blue or green eyes, and what hair color they will have. Royal bets have already been placed on everything from the baby's name (Alexandra is a current favorite for girls, George for boys) to the baby's height and exact birthdate.
One thing is for sure, however: bringing Kate Middleton into the royal fold will be better for the gene pool. "It's very good that they're bringing in new genes," Dr. Anand Saggar, a consultant in the South West Thames Regional Genetics Department at St. George's Hospital Medical School in London, told CNN. "It freshens up the gene pool."
Saggar explained that the royals are fairly pale, while Middleton's skin has a darker, more olive tone, and the baby will likely fall somewhere in between the two.
"The odds are the child will have darker skin color than the royals might be used to," Saggar said.
He added that the same will be true for eye color, as the chances that the royal baby will have true blue eyes like Prince William are relatively unlikely, and more likely, the baby will have eyes like its mother.
As for hair color, Saggar said that because Prince William's brother is a redhead, there is a 66 percent chance that he carries the gene for red hair. Because of Middleton's genes, he estimates about a 6 percent chance that the baby will have red hair.
However, British betters seem confident that the baby will have red hair, as according to William Hill online betting, there are 4-1 odds that the baby will be a ginger.
"If you're going to put some money on it, you might want to think about it," Saggar said.
One thing is more likely, as both Middleton and her husband are quite tall, the royal baby likely will be as well. Barry Starr, director of The Tech at Stanford School of Medicine, said that their son or daughter will be between 5'6'' and 6'2'', but of course, nothing is for certain.
"That's the fun of having babies," Saggar said. "You don't know what you're going to get."
