Los Angeles Man Attempts To Commit Suicide By Setting Himself On Fire Inside Starbucks Bathroom

A man attempting to commit suicide set himself on fire inside a Los Angeles Starbucks bathroom on Tuesday morning, the Associated Press reported.

The man, who has not yet been identified, has been hospitalized in extremely "critical condition" after setting himself ablaze in the restroom of a Los Angeles coffee shop, LAPD Officer Liliana Preciado said, adding that authorities believe the victim may be homeless.

"That's under investigation at this time," Preciado said.

Shortly after 8 a.m. on Tuesday, the man reportedly doused himself with flammable liquid and lit himself on fire after locking himself in the bathroom at the Starbucks in the Van Nuys area on Sherman Way, according to a preliminary investigation.

The flames were already out when Los Angeles City Fire crews arrived at the scene, Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott said.

The man may be a transient, Los Angeles Police Officer Drake Madison told City News Service, adding that he suffered "extensive burns" on his body.

Meanwhile, there were no other reported injuries. It was unclear what kind of accelerant the man used, according to New York Daily News.

This article will be updated as new details become available.
