Sabine Lisicki meets Marion Bartoli on Saturday in the 2013 Wimbledon Championships Final. The match starts at 9 a.m. ET. Watch the live stream HERE.
It's a surprising matchup in the women's final. With the big names like Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka eliminated, not many could have predicted a Lisicki-Bartoli match for the title.
Both women are competing for their first Grand Slam title. World No. 24 Lisicki astonished the tennis world on Monday by defeating Wimbledon-favorite Serena Williams in the fourth round. The three-set win advanced Lisicki to the quarterfinals, where she beat Kaia Kanepi, and then to the semifinals, where she defeated Agnieszka Radwanska.
While her defeat of Williams was huge, it wasn't the first time she's upset a reigning French Open champion at Wimbledon. She beat Svetlana Kuznetsova in 2009, Li Na in 2011, Maria Sharapova in 2012 and, most recently, Williams in 2013. She missed 2010 because of injury, according to ESPN.
Bartoli , ranked No. 14 in the World, enters the final on Saturday with the advantage of experience. She played in the 2007 Wimbledon Final, where she fell to Williams in two sets. If there was ever a time for the 28-year-old Frenchwoman to seize her first Grand Slam title, it's on Saturday against the 23-year-old German.
Based on history, Lisicki has the upper hand in the match, according to MatchStat. Bartoli has only beaten Lisicki once in their four career head-to-head matches. Bartoli won their first meeting in the 2008 Wimbledon Championships, and Lisicki bounced back to win the next three meetings, with the most recent happening at 2011 Wimbledon.
