New York Man Set Woman's Face On Fire In Dispute Over $10, Police Say

A New York City woman's dispute with a man over $10 ended with her face being set on fire, the New York Daily News reported.

Police are now seeking the man, named William Norwood, following the fiery altercation that occurred outside his apartment in the Bronx early Tuesday morning.

The 51-year-old allegedly torched the unnamed victim's face after a witness said she did not want to pay back the $10 she took from Norwood.

"She said something like, 'I didn't take no money, I don't have the $10,'" Nora, the suspect's mother who was inside the apartment during the 3:30 a.m. incident, told the newspaper.

"You had it. I didn't take it," the woman told Norwood, according to his mother.

Nora Norwood told the Daily News she stepped outside and suggested the woman go home, but the woman refused.

The argument escalated and William Norwood took lighter fluid and splashed it in her face. He then took out a Bic lighter and set her face on fire, authorities told the newspaper.

She was able to quickly extinguish the fire, but needed medical attention for minor facial burns. She was treated at Jacobi Medical Center.

Norwood fled the scene and was still being pursued as of Tuesday evening, the Daily News reported. Though his mother admitted her son has been in trouble with police before, she defended her son and said it was the woman who set her face on fire.
