Morena Baccarin has scored the coveted female lead opposite Ryan Reynolds in the upcoming Marvel-based movie, "Deadpool."
A month after her casting was announced, Baccarin tweeted a pic of her seat on the movie set. The photo also revealed her character's name as Vanessa, which in the Marvel universe is Vanessa Carlysle a.k.a. Copycat.
In the comics, Copycat is a mutant shape-shifter who was saved from a life of prostitution in Boston by Deadpool. She also was a part of the X-Force superhero team.
Baccarin sat on a shortlist to play Reynolds' love interest in the film from 20th Century Fox, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She joins the already cast T.J. Miller and Gina Carano.
In the movie, her character will struggle with her feelings as she falls in love with the anti-hero, who has a grotesquely disfigured face and is mentally unstable.
Reynolds reprises his role as Wade Wilson, a.k.a. Deadpool, which debuted in 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." He recently revealed the mask and gloves of his Merc with a Mouth costume on Twitter.
Tim Miller will direct the script written by Rhet Reese and Paul Wernick. Production is tentatively scheduled to start in March in Vancouver and Fox has planned a 2016 release.
Baccarin's credits include "Homeland," "V" and "Firefly." She's also no stranger to comic-book-based material, although she's worked almost exclusively with content produced by the rival DC Comics.
The 35-year-old actress currently stars on the Fox TV show "Gotham," a Batman origin story, and recently voiced Gideon, the secret machine in the lair of Harrison Wells on The CW's "The Flash." She also has voiced several characters in DC animated shows.
"Deadpool" is scheduled to open in theaters on Feb. 12, 2016.
