The first-ever "American Idol" winner is clearly not idolized by her peers.
In an interview with BBC Radio 1, 32-year-old Kelly Clarkson revealed that she has had tremendous difficulty getting other singers to work with her.
"I honestly would collaborate with a lot of people, but everyone usually says no," Clarkson told Nick Grimshaw of BBC on Tuesday. "I'm not kidding you. I have legitimately asked several people that I'm not going to call out, and that's cool, but I don't know."
The three-time Grammy-winner isn't just looking for anyone to share the stage with.
"I ask good people, I don't want to sing with crap people, so I mean, I ask people who are great vocalists, but I'm not going to point out anyone. I have asked several people ... Sometimes I feel like I have the plague, or leprosy, they're like, 'If you get too close ...' I don't know," she said.
Perhaps Clarkson's not-so-subtle tweet on the night of the MTV VMAs last year had something to do with it. Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry - three of the most popular female singers (and also Clarkson's competition) - all performed during the 2013 award show.
"Just saw a couple performances from the VMA's last night. 2 words.... #pitchystrippers," she tweeted. Well . . . that's not exactly the best way to make friends in the music industry.
Even though Clarkson has heard a lot of no's lately, it hasn't stopped her from creating music on her own. She is debuting her seventh studio album titled "Piece by Piece" next month, and hopefully her newest effort will be well-received. Clarkson has earned two No. 1 albums, three No. 1 singles and eight top-10 hits in the past 13 years, the Huffington Post reported.
Clarkson's requests weren't all denied, and she was able to solidify one gig.
"I got John Legend to say yes, and he's cool. I can get country artists to sing with me and John Legend! I'm gonna keep John Legend. He's super credible and talented. I feel very good about myself with that one," she said, according to Us Weekly.
"I feel like I'm a very nice person that you might want to sing with me."
