Julia Roberts lost her mother Betty Lou Bredemus on Thursday morning, according to People.
Bredemus, who was 80 years old when she passed away, has been suffering from lung cancer. Her death comes a little more than a year after her daughter and Roberts' half-sister, Nancy Motes, committed suicide at age 37.
After Motes death, Bredemus moved in with Julia and her family in Los Angeles. Roberts opened up about her sister's death in the WSJ Magazine last year.
"You don't want anything bad to happen to anyone, but there are so many tragic, painful, inexplicable things in the world. But [as with] any situation of challenge and despair, we must find a way, as a family," she said. "It's so hard to formulate a sentence about it outside the weepy huddle of my family."
The mother of four previously ran an acting school in Smyrna, Georgia. Her other children include son Eric Roberts (58) and daughter Lisa Gillan (49). She also was grandmother to actress Emma Roberts (Eric's daughter) and Julia's children - 10-year-old twins Phinnaeus and Hazel, and seven-year-old son Henry.
Julia has been filming her new movie "The Secret in Their Eyes" in Los Angeles.
