Apple Car Making Its Debut in 2020? Anonymous Source Says So

The fact that Apple has hired multiple employees from other car companies has led many tech analysts to believe that Apple has an interest in making a car.

The tech giant has not officially confirmed the rumors. However, insiders on the project revealed that Apple appears to have a short schedule for the project.

Apple is pushing its design team to have a model ready by 2020, according to Bloomberg Business' sources. This is an exceptionally short design schedule, considering that most car design projects take anywhere between five to seven years to finish.

"That's the inflection point -- the proving ground -- that brings on the electric age......Now you have Apple coming in and this is critical mass. Was GM really going to be able to match Tesla? Apple can," Steve Levine, author of various books on the automotive industry, told Bloomberg.

Levine believes that Apple is trying to enter the electric car industry. If this were to occur, Apple could be following a tradition of entering an established industry (such as the MP3 player, the tablet, the wearable gadget) and hopefully changing the industry for the better.

Apple has also been reportedly investing in the self-driving car market. An inside source told the press that Apple was working to create its own self-driving car independent of any other car maker.

Supposedly, the car will use an altered one of Apple's operating systems to maintain awareness of its surroundings. However, Apple declined comment, saying that it is all based on "rumor of speculation."
