Contrary to what's on the Internet, Chelsea Handler does indeed have something to
"bare."
According to Variety, Handler isn't too happy about general circumstances that led to her exit from E! and says her new Netflix show will be "cooler than 60 Minutes."
Handler's show on Netflix is set to debut in 2016.
"It's such a different relationship than with E!; it's nice to be involved in a show where I do respect their opinions," she told an audience at the Code Media conference earlier this week. "It's like going out with a guy that you're proud to be seen with."
Handler said she was happy to get away from the tabloid fodder that she often focused on at E! She said she was tired of that content by the second season of her series.
"I just don't want to ever have to see that again," she said about Bruce Jenner and the
continual Kardashian drama. "I don't care. I don't care about that."
Variety reported that Handler was dismissive of the network TV development experience.
She rejected the creative notes of executives she labeled as either not funny or not
having the experience to oversee an entertainment show.
"Network TV is so limiting," Handler said. "There are so many parameters."
Handler said "60 Minutes" has inspired her to rise above the entertainment focus she had endured on her previous show. She said she is also inspired by "The Daily Show" to focus on current events.
"I would like a healthy mix of everything that goes on around the world," she said, saying that her show would incorporate the "well-roundedness of '60 Minutes'" but would be "faster, quicker, cooler."
She said there would likely be a correspondent and the show probably would not air every night during the week. Scheduling and style are still being worked out with Netflix execs.
