The Denver Nuggets reportedly agreed to buy out the contract of Thomas Robinson, whom the Portland Trail Blazers traded to Denver on Thursday. The Utah Jazz are also expected to reach a buyout agreement with ex-Oklahoma City Thunder veteran Kendrick Perkins, who's said to be drawing interest from the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Chicago Bulls and several other teams.
Robinson is only 23 years old, but he's already become a journeyman. Denver became the fourth team he's been on in just five seasons, following Portland's trade on Thursday that sent Robinson, Will Barton, Victor Claver and a protected 2016 first-round pick to Denver in exchange for Arron Afflalo and Alonzo Gee.
Robinson, though, looks unlikely to ever actually play for the Nuggets.
"Thomas Robinson verbally agrees to buyout (with) Nuggets, source told ESPN. Robinson in search of expanded role. Wasn't going to happen in Denver," ESPN's Jeff Goodman tweeted Thursday night.
As of now, it's uncertain what - if any - teams have expressed interest in him.
While Robinson will likely have to turn a few stones to find a new home, Perkins will likely have his pick of the litter if - or when, depending on reports - the Jazz buy out his contract. Utah is expected to reach a buyout agreement on Perkins's expiring contract, and if he were to clear waivers, a number of teams reportedly would be waiting to sign him.
There's no consensus, however, on where Perkins is the likeliest to land.
Cleveland and Chicago are the two frontrunners for Perkins, according to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune. ESPN's Royce Young named the Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland as teams to watch, and yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reported the Dallas Mavericks are a favorite to sign Perkins and confirmed the veteran is drawing interest from Chicago, Cleveland and Los Angeles.
Both players would need to be bought out before March 1 in order to be playoff-eligible for a new team.
