Fans of the pop star Miley Cyrus have created a petition asking for the White House to replace the national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner," with their favorite singer's hit song "Party in the USA," Gawker reports.
This unusual petition to "We the People" (petitions.whitehouse.gov), the White House's system that allows citizens to lobby the government, pleads for President "Obama [to] please make Miley Cyrus' 'Party In the Usa' our national anthem," proclaiming: "It is what is best for this country."
The petition, which was created on July 2, needs 100,000 signatures in order for it to be sent to the government for White House staff to review it, and so far it has only gained about 254.
Cyrus' video for "Party in the USA" is the 23rd most-watched video on Youtube with nearly 342 million views. The catchy song references Jay-Z and Britney Spears, telling the story of Cyrus' nerve-wracking introduction to Hollywood as a homegrown girl from Nashville.
As of now, Cyrus has broken Justin Bieber's Vevo record with her latest video "We Can't Stop," an often strange and provocative project that has amused fans and ruffled the feathers of critics and even scholars. The star is preparing to release her upcoming album later this year, the first after her departure from Disney's Hollywood Records.
